Being Church Differently is a gathering for people exploring and experimenting with innovative ways of ‘being church’ today.

This day is an opportunity to connect with others excited about Mission Pioneering, Fresh Expressions, or whatever terms helps you describe being church differently.

The day will include inspirational storytelling, shared learning, and some time in geographic and/or interest groups, to help move our learning from knowledge to action.

A perfect opportunity for those who want to understand more about ‘being church differently’ even if you’ve never tried anything before!  For those who are already on the journey, a perfect networking space to connect in with others on these growing edges of the church.

We understand ‘being church differently’ to mean seeking to grow expressions of Christian community with people who ‘don’t do church’, enabling ways of discipleship and Christian life that connects them with God and one another.  The aim of the gathering is to share both encouraging signs of life and what we are learning from experience, to network and encourage both newcomers and old-hands, connect active expressions for peer learning, and provide spaces for creativity to be nurtured.

Mission Shaped Ministry Programs at Uniting Mission & Education
What does it look like when we build Christian discipleship communities shaped by people who aren’t yet members of any church?
How do we establish missional communities where people can encounter and live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ without having to step into a church building?
In 2018, the NSW ACT Synod is launching Mission Shaped Ministry, a program originally created in the UK as part of the Fresh Expressions movement.
The Mission Shaped Ministry courses are being delivered by teams from UME, Uniting, Parramatta Nepean and Sydney Central Coast Presbyteries.
Experiential and reflective learning increase the capacity and learning in this field which is still relatively new.
