UME welcomes and thanks acting executive directors

Today in the Centre for Ministry chapel service, the staff, students and broader community at Uniting Mission & Education were pleased to welcome the Reverend Tara Curlewis to her new role as Acting Executive Director of Uniting Mission and Education, which officially commenced on Sunday 1 October 2017.

With over 8 months in the acting role, the Reverend Dr Rhonda White was thanked for her outstanding contribution to UME. She will continue to be an important member of the UME team, with the return to her role teaching Practical Theology with the United Theological College faculty.

Tara Curlewis, the new Acting Executive Director for UME, comes to the role with a corporate background in Market Research and Mineral Exploration, a Bachelor of Applied Sciences and Bachelor of Theology; and has exercised, since her ordination, roles in the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Uniting Church in Australia and the National Council of Churches in Australia.

Tara has served in congregational ministry, and more recently in strategic and intentional supply positions within the Sydney Central Coast, Hunter and Parramatta-Nepean Presbyteries. She has served on numerous Synod and Assembly Boards and as Deputy Chairperson of the Sydney Central Coast Presbytery.

Tara is passionate about the Uniting Church and this opportunity to lead the important work and direction of Uniting Mission & Education in the coming, weeks and months.

Since commencing Tara has said “Uniting Mission and Education is a key resource for the Synod of NSW and ACT in equipping and training informed leaders who are able to integrate their learning and experience in local community to help people grow in faith, discipleship and leadership in the church.”

“I look forward to working with passionate, professional and community-focussed members of the staff, students, and candidates in exercising collaborative leadership each day, to ensure that mission and education are core values at the centre of our Synod.”

We thank the United Theological College (UTC) faculty for releasing Rhonda for the 8 months of secondment to the Acting Executive Director role and covering her academic workload.

We thank Rev Dr Rhonda White for her leadership and welcome Rev Tara Curlewis to the team at Uniting Mission and Education.
