The 2017 Islamophobia Report revealed that over 50% of Australians have a negative view of the role religion plays in contemporary society. Underwriting that statistic is the perception that religion is responsible for much of the violence in the world, a perception that ignores the reality that religious people are most commonly the victim, rather than perpetrators of violence. This conference seeks to counter that perception, exploring texts and traditions that might promote the growth of peace.
The conference will feature two key speakers from The University of Edinburgh:
Both are highly credentialed in regards to inter-faith dialogue and commitments to peace.
The conference will also feature panel sessions, workshops, and papers from other contributors.
This conference constitutes the entirety of the face-to-face teaching for subject THL535 – Seminar in Biblical and Theological Interpretation.
You are required to attend all three days of the conference from 9am to 5pm in order to successfully meet the requirements for completing this subject.
