Growth Strategy Minister/Pastor

Uniting Mission and Education (UME), a Board of the Uniting Church Synod of NSW and the ACT invites applications from suitably qualified people for the position of Growth Strategy Minister.

These roles will report to the Head of Mission Strategy, and form part of a team that seeks to encourage and enable the church to grow in mission.

Working across the Uniting Church in NSW and the ACT, the Growth Strategy Ministers will focus on church planting, fresh expressions of church and church revitalisation. The context for this work is not only the burgeoning multi-cultural megalopolis of Greater Sydney, but also key regional centres around NSW and the ACT.

The basis of the work is to look at two key questions:

What should we do?

Supporting the development of regional and location specific growth strategies, based on an emerging theological understanding of the contemporary church at mission in the current and future Australian contexts. This work is intensely collaborative – across the Presbyteries (regional councils), local congregations and the Synod.

How do we do it?

For a selected portfolio of strategic projects, the team will be the “glue” that supports the various parts of the church working together to deliver innovative missional outcomes, collaboratively aligning resources for maximum impact. The team will also facilitate a learning culture that develops an understanding of how best to respond and resource different mission opportunities and approaches.

Applicants will be expected to have demonstrated experience in successfully supporting church planting and/or fresh expressions of church, as well as participating in same. They will be able to demonstrate innovative “missional acumen” in discerning opportunities for growth and aligning plans to these opportunities.

Applicants will be members of the Uniting Church (or willing to become members), have appropriate theological education and be able to work across the cultural, generational, geographic and theological diversity of the Uniting Church in NSW and the ACT.
